Elaine R. (Desrosiers) and George A. Florent recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at the Galleria Banquet Hall at Maria's Restaurant in Haverhill. They were married on June 17, 1951 at St. Joseph's Church in Haverhill.

Their children include: Donna Demers of Haverhill, Peter, husband of Susan of Haverhill, Michael, husband of Anne Marie of Newburyport, Theresa, wife of Jerry Romotsky of Newburyport, Denise, wife of Wally Hamel of Durham, N.H., Anne Marie Mede of Haverhill, Joseph, husband of Dee of Haverhill, Paul of Tampa, Fla., Mary, wife of Roger Harriman of Haverhill, and Michele, wife of Randy Perillo of Stoneham. There are 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Elaine is a native of Haverhill and was a homemaker. George is a native of New Bedford, Mass. and is a retired Police Sergeant for the Haverhill Police Department.

George and Elaine met in 1950 at the office of Dr. Peter Wheeler in Currier Square, Haverhill, where Elaine worked as a secretary. Dr. Wheeler had many patients who were veterans and George was his patient after returning from World War II in 1946.

Their secret to a happy marriage is to keep God as the third party in their marriage and to be guided by their Catholic faith. Another secret is to kiss in the morning, kiss at night, and to learn how to say "sorry."
