(Nellie) Lizabeth Morris of Pilot Point, Texas, formerly of Columbiana, Ohio, will be celebrating her 90th birthday March 18, 2011. In 1921, Lizabeth was born to Albert and Clara Buckley Smith at the family farm. She was the baby of the family and had two brothers, Paul and Charlie, and a sister, Lena Smith Rummel . Lizabeth graduated from David Anderson High School in Lisbon, Ohio in 1939. She went to work in the credit department of Mullins Mfg. in 1940. In 1947, she married J. Frank Morris, home from World War II. They moved to their farm on Kirk Rd. outside of Columbiana and she went to work for the family business, Morrisville Auction, where Frank was an auctioneer along with his father, John Morris. They also ran a small dairy business until 1955 In 1952, Lizabeth went to work in the business office of A.L. Wagner Motors in Youngstown, Ohio. In 1962, she began working for The Salem News, retiring as Manager of Advertising in 1983. After retirement, she and Frank moved to Texas in 1990 to work with their son, Paul, at his equine veterinary practice. The memorable old 1947 H tractor from their farm traveled with them to Texas while the 1953 300 H made its way to Colorado. Lizabeth and Frank had two sons, Paul Morris of Pilot Point, Texas, and David Morris who lives in Fort Collins, Colorado. Both sons are veterinarians. Lizabeth has lively stories ranging from night trips back and forth to the OSU Veterinary School hauling livestock for their sons to piglet surgery in her basement.
Along with being a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Lizabeth has been involved in PTA, Columbiana County Fair, County Mental Health Association Board, County Home Extension Group as well as teaching Sunday school and church secretary. At home, she was involved in farming, 4-H, canning, gardening, sewing, and whatever her boys could convince her to try! Today, she enjoys her computer and the adventure of being a grandmother of four and a great-grandmother of four. She has always been a wonderful cook and the little "greats" love her snacks!
