Methuen firefighters battled an early Wednesday morning fire at 22 Buttonwood Drive, which is believed to have claimed the lives of homeowners James and Thelma McDermott, as well as their dog. Buttonwood, a steep hilly road, is located between Jackson and Prospect Street and across the street from the Methuen High entrance on Jackson Street.
