Nurses participated in a rally yesterday near Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill to bring attention to patient safety. The nurses, all of whom are members of the Massachusetts Nurses Association/National Nurses United, say they are alarmed by the low staffing levels required by the hospital's parent company Steward Health Care. But a spokesman for Steward said the nurses are using the rally as a contract negotiation tactic.
