---- — BOSTON (AP) — The state House Ethics Committee is recommending jailed state Rep. Carlos Henriquez be expelled.
Rep. David Nangle of Lowell, committee vice chairman, confirmed the decision Tuesday night after Henriquez met privately with the panel. The meeting lasted for about seven hours.
Nangle said the full House will vote Thursday.
Henriquez, a Boston Democrat, is serving a six-month sentence after being convicted of assaulting a former girlfriend. He has resisted calls for his resignation from House Speaker Robert DeLeo, Gov. Deval Patrick and others. He would be given an opportunity to address the full House before Thursday’s vote.
A lawyer for Henriquez said that he has continued to represent his community while in custody.
It would be only the third time in more than a century that the House has expelled a member.
