Two-fingered man charged in bank heists

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a Rhode Island man has confessed to bank robberies in Massachusetts after authorities identified him by his missing fingers.

U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Carmen Ortiz announced Monday that Lavell C. Livramento is charged with armed bank robbery following Thursday’s incident at Dedham’s Blue Hills Bank in which someone armed with a knife stole $12,000.

Eyewitnesses and surveillance images indicated the robber was missing two fingers on his left hand.

— a distinguishing characteristic that investigators used to connect the suspect to bank robberies in Taunton, Mansfield and Swansea.

Authorities say Livramento confessed to the robberies after he was arrested. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
