Fish and Game officers were called to the scene on Friday afternoon.

Witnesses say the man had been fishing when he tried to pull a piece of trash floating in the water and was swept down the river.

WMUR-TV reports that the man’s friend put on a life vest and searched for him but was unsuccessful. A bystander called 911.

Israeli man killed in hit-and-run crash in Mass.

BOURNE, Mass. (AP) — Massachusetts State Police say the victim of a fatal hit-and-run accident on Cape Cod has been identified as an Israeli man who was driving a rented minivan with multiple passengers, including children.

Police say the crash at the base of the Sagamore Bridge in Bourne occurred at about 8 p.m. Thursday when a pickup truck merging onto Route 6 east struck another pickup.

The second truck careened into the westbound lanes, striking the victim’s minivan head-on.

The vehicle that allegedly caused the crash drove away. Police are looking for a dark-colored truck with minor or moderate damage to its left front end or left side.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released.

Some van passengers were hospitalized, as was the driver of the second pickup. He was ejected from his truck.

Police investigating hammer attack in NH

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Police in Manchester, N.H., are investigating a home invasion involving several intruders who attacked a man with a hammer.

Police said 27-year-old Brian Smithurst was seriously injured early Friday and is recovering at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

Smithurst told officers he was at his girlfriend’s apartment when the group of unknown people broke in through the front door and started assaulting several people inside. Smithurst was struck with the hammer.
