At least four hit with $500 fines for blizzard travel

Drivers in Oxford and Raynham on Saturday were among the at least five people cited for driving during a ban on vehicular traffic during and immediately after last weekend’s blizzard.

Four people were cited on Saturday for driving during Gov. Deval Patrick’s ban on vehicular travel, and at least one other person was cited for driving at some point during the ban, according to State Police.

State Police spokesman Dave Procopio has revised upwards earlier numbers he provided to the News Service, and amended an earlier statement by saying that none of the drivers stopped was issued a criminal complaint.

All four stops for which Procopio has details resulted in $500 fines.

Two of the stops took place in Oxford between 8 and 9 on Saturday morning.

At 11:50 a.m., a driver on South Street in Raynham was cited for driving during the ban and leaving a vehicle running in the middle of a travelway. Another motorist was cited along the same road in Raynham shortly afterwards. Procopio said there was at least one other citation along the Massachusetts Turnpike.
