Workers rescued from Chelsmsford basket crane

CHELSMFORD — Three cell phone company workers have made it safely down from a 125-foot tower after two of them got trapped in a basket crane, and one of their brothers came to the rescue.

Matt West and Luke Fischer were near the top of a Chelmsford water tower to work on wireless equipment yesterday afternoon when the crane stuck.

The Lowell Sun reports firefighters weren’t able to reach them, so Matt West of East Wareham called his brother, Brian West of Onset. All three men work for Pinnacle Wireless.

Brian West climbed a ladder on the tower and pulled up rappelling equipment that all three used to get safely down, one at a time.

The men said they train extensively for such events on the job. Matt West also told Boston’s WCVB-TV, “thank God for my brother.”
