Ferry runs aground in Boston Harbor
BOSTON — Authorities say a fast ferry traveling to Cape Cod ran aground in a foggy Boston Harbor, but none of the 149 people and one dog who were onboard was injured.
A U.S. Coast Guard spokesman says the ferry headed to Provincetown ran aground yesterday near Nixes Mate, one of the smaller islands in the harbor.
Rescuers spent more than an hour and a half transferring passengers, crew members and the dog to another ferry. The Coast Guard will investigate.
Springfield mayor to hear casino plans
SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno is set to meet with representatives of several companies interested in putting a casino in the state’s third-largest city.
Sarno has scheduled private meetings with potential developers tomorrow. The mayor is expected to have a key role in future casino negotiations, as the state’s new gambling law requires a host community agreement be reached with city officials and approved by voters before developers can apply for a license from the state gaming commission.
MGM Resorts unveiled an $800 million proposal last week for a resort casino and entertainment complex in downtown Springfield.
Ameristar Casinos has proposed a casino at a former industrial site off Interstate 91. Two other companies, Penn National Gaming and Hard Rock International, are also considering Springfield.
Towns holding moose festival
COLEBROOK, N.H. — The 21st North Country Moose Festival is drawing moose fans from all over to New Hampshire and Vermont this weekend.
There are moose-calling contests, a moose stew cook-off and activities such as helicopter rides, an auto show and a craft fair.
The New Hampshire towns of Colebrook, Stewartstown and Pittsburg are holding events, as well as the Vermont town of Canaan. The moose festival runs through Sunday.
Hit-and-run victim identified
WELLESLEY — Police have identified a Wellesley cyclist who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver.
Police identified the victim as Alexander Motsenigos of Wellesley. A driver travelling north on Weston Road hit the 41-year-old man as he was riding in the same direction near the intersection of Linden Street on Friday afternoon.
Investigators say the victim was wearing a helmet.

Emergency workers found the victim unconscious and took him to Newton Wellesley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The vehicle that hit him did not stop and was last seen headed north on Weston Road. Investigators urge witnesses and anyone with information to contact the Wellesley Police Department at 781-235-1212.
