NH police say man, 68, assaulted 9-year-old girl

RAYMOND, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire police say a 68-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl in the town of Raymond.

Raymond police say Richard Smeltzer is facing six counts of aggravated felony sex assault.

Smeltzer is being held at the Rockingham County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond. He is scheduled to appear in Candia District Court Sept. 9.

Police say the investigation began Aug 16, after the girl told a relative that Smeltzer sexually assaulted her.

The charges are felonies.

It is not known whether Smeltzer, who was jailed, is represented by a lawyer.
