Brockton woman's throat slashed during robbery

---- — BROCKTON (AP) — A Brockton man is held without bail after a knife attack on a 62-year-old woman.

Thirty-eight-year-old Brian Vines pleaded not guilty yesterday to charges including armed robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and kidnapping. He was ordered held for a dangerousness hearing Monday.

Prosecutors said Vines got into her home Tuesday evening by asking the woman for a phone number for her son, an acquaintance. He allegedly demanded her ATM card and slashed her throat and stabbed her when she refused to undress. Vines left and the woman called 911. She is hospitalized.

Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz said his office tried to get Vines, convicted of rape in 2001 under another name, committed as a sexually dangerous person after a 2009 arrest. He said Vines was released from prison 18 months ago.
