HAVERHILL — A 64-year-old Haverhill woman was held without bail today in the stabbing death of her 51-year-old boyfriend in the apartment they shared.
Susan Lovejoy, of 1 Water Street , Apt. 306, faces a charge of murder in the death of Kervin Paul.
Paul was found dead in the couple's blood-stained apartment about 11:30 last night, according to a police report. Responding to a report of a suicide, they found him lying on his back on the living-room floor, with Lovejoy kneeling beside him. He had been stabbed through the arm and had no pulse.
Lovejoy said she had been in her bedroom when she heard Paul scream about a half hour earlier. Lovejoy said he had stabbed himself, but the report said the angle of the wound indicated it was not self-inflicted.
Police had been to the apartment earlier in the evening, for a report of a disturbance about 5:15 p.m.
Paul told police that Lovejoy had been drinking since the day before and taking prescription drugs. He told police she was "out of her mind" and needed to be hospitalized, according the police report. She was taken to Merrimack Valley Hospital.
When police returned to the apartment shortly before midnight, Lovejoy told them she had walked home from the hospital, a little less than two miles from the apartment building.
At a brief appearance this morning in Haverhill District Court, Lovejoy was ordered held without bail by Judge Stephen Abany.
The multi-story River's Edge apartment building at 1 Water St. overlooks the Merrimack River at the Basiliere Bridge.
