Salem police seek man in attempted murder

SALEM — New Hampshire police are seeking Thomas George, 18, for an attempted murder this morning on Cluff Crossing Road.

The intended victim is believed to be his mother, of Salem.

George fled the area in a green Kia Sophia with New Hampshire plate 3411012 with an Air Force sticker on the rear window.

George is believed to be armed — with a knife and hammer — and is considered dangerous, Deputy Police Chief Shawn Patten said.

Salem High School was on "shelter-in-place" status, meaning no one but parents was allowed access, because George has ties to the school, Patten said. Several officers have been assigned to the high school for added security. Otherwise it was "business as usual" at the school.

Police are near Kendall Pond Road in Derry now and it appears they may have the suspect vehicle. At 9:30 a.m., scanner reports indicated the car is running, but unoccupied. Police are calling for a K-9.
