Two hurt in I-495 crash that slows traffic

METHUEN — Traffic slowed on Interstate 495 and nearby roads this afternoon because of a two-car crash on the highway as rush hour approached.

At 3:45 p.m., State Police responded to a report of the crash on the northbound side of I-495, about a quarter-mile mile south of Haverhill's Ward Hill exit. Police said one vehicle rolled onto its side and two people received minor injuries. One of the injured people was transported to Lawrence General Hospital, while the other was taken to Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill.

Northbound traffic slowed to a crawl, followed by southbound traffic, which began to back up due to drivers slowing down to see the scene of the crash. At 4:45 p.m., police said the scene was cleared and that the highway returned to its normal busy rush-hour traffic.
