Woman killed in Methuen fire early today

METHUEN — A 48-year-old woman died in a fire on Park Street early this morning, officials said.

Authorities are not naming the victim as they try to contact her next to kin.

Police Officer Thomas Richardson on patrol in the area spotted the fire at 12 Park St. about 4 a.m. The home was quickly and fully engulfed in flames, police said.

Police said the deceased woman is believed to be the only person who was living in the house.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation this morning.

Park Street runs northeast off Broadway (Route 28) near Methuen Memorial Music Hall. St. Monica's Parish and the city's Central School, attended by 9th graders, are located in the area. Traffic delays are expected.

This is the second fatal fire in the city this year. In late February, James and Thelma McDermott were killed in an overnight inferno in their Buttonwood Drive home.
