Three dead in murder-suicide in Salem

---- — SALEM, N.H. — Police have confirmed three people are dead after an apparent murder-suicide at 33 Wheeler Ave. earlier today.

The victims include one man and two women, all dead as the result of gunshot wounds, according to a statement from Attorney General Michael Delaney, New Hampshire State Police Col. Robert Quinn, and Salem police Chief Paul Donovan.

Scanner reports earlier today said "several" victims were down with serious head injuries.

A neighbor reported seeing an ambulance leave the scene around midday. Police kept media and residents well away from the scene, which appeared to be centered on the front lawn of the two-story colonial.

Almost from the first reports of the incident, police stressed there was no danger to the general public.

The N.H. State Police Major Crimes Unit was called in to help with the investigation, Deputy police Chief Shawn Patten said.

Town assessing records list the owners as Shirley Leary and Susan Kaznecki et al. Leary purchased the property in 1988, according to land records.

The identities of those involved are being withheld pending notification of family members, officials said. Autopsies will be scheduled for the victims.
