Dozen arrests made in countywide drug sweep

Nearly two dozen people are expected to be arrested today in a drug sweep across Rockingham County.

Ten law enforcement teams spread throughout the county began making arrests about 5 a.m., with more expected by early afternoon, Rockingham County Attorney James Reams said.

"We have more than a dozen in custody right now and there are more we are looking for," Reams said about 10:30 a.m.

By the time it's over, Reams said he expects about 20 arrests to be made.

Arrests have been made in Salem, Danville, Plaistow, Raymond and also Manchester, which is in Hillsborough County, he said.

The investigation began months ago, and investigators have seized everything from Oxycodone to heroin, he said.

Several local police departments are involved in the sweep in addition to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, he said.

The names of those arrested won't be released until a press conference at 2 p.m. today.
