Man badly hurt when tree falls on him in Haverhill

HAVERHILL — A tree fell on a man this afternoon in the area of 133 North Ave., and he was taken from the scene shortly after 2 p.m.

Witnesses said the man appeared to have severe injuries to his lower body. He was rushed to Lawrence General Hospital's trauma center.

Witnesses said a large tree which recently received damage in a storm was was being removed by Plante's Tree Removal Takedown company. A company truck was parked at the scene.

Police blocked off North Avenue between Marsh Avenue and Sagamore Place and surrounded the area with "crime scene'' tape. A chain saw was on the ground near the fallen tree.
