Body found matches description of missing UNH student

A body recovered from the Piscataqua River near Prescott Park in Portsmouth early today matches the description of a University of New Hampshire student from Windham missing since Tuesday, according to UNH police.

The man has not been positively identified, but police believe it may be Jonathan Zygmont, 19, who was last seen near the park Tuesday evening, according to a post at about 4 p.m. today on the police department's Facebook page.

The state medical examiner is expected to identify the body tomorrow morning, police said.

A description of Zygmont, his clothes and a backpack match what they found, police said.

“We were greatly saddened to learn that police had recovered what is believed to be the body of our missing student,” UNH President Mark Huddleston said. “We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this very difficult time, and will continue to offer our support to the campus community and Jon’s loved ones.”
