Update: Horrific crash closes Route 111 in Salem, N.H.

SALEM, N.H. — A woman was killed in a horrific crash on Route 111 just past 10:45 this morning. The accident has closed the road near Autumn Woods indefinitely.

A woman driving a 2009 Mazda 6 was traveling east when she crossed the center line, police said, and crashed head on into a 2002 Kenworth tractor-trailer .

There was no one else in the Mazda.

Car parts are strewn across the roadway. The car ended up off the roadway.

Police and fire personel are at the scene and the medical examiner has been called. The Salem Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team and N.H. State Police are investigating.

The car carries New Hampshire license plates.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area. Police said the road will remain closed for about four hours. Updates will be provided as they become available.
