Andover pediatrician charged with receiving child porn

ANDOVER — An Andover pediatrician was arrested after investigators found more than 500 photographs and as many as 100 DVDs containing child pornography during a search of his home this morning.

Richard Keller, 56, a pediatric endocrinologist at Boston Children’s Hospital and a pediatrics instructor at Harvard Medical School, was charged with receipt of child pornography. According to the U.S. Attorney's office, Keller ordered over 50 DVDs of child pornography online. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 20 years in prison, to be followed by up to a lifetime of supervised released and a $250,000 fine.

Keller was also the medical director at Phillips Academy for 19 years before stepping down in 2011.

The U.S. Attorney's office is urging members of the public who have questions, concerns or information regarding this case to call 617-748-3274.

The case is brought as part of Project Safe Childhood. In February 2006, the Department of Justice created Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s CEOS, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as identify and rescue victims.
