UPDATE: Suspect in Haverhill stabbing is in custody

HAVERHILL -- A suspect is in custody in last night's fatal stabbing in Haverhill, the Essex District Attorney's Office said.

Philip Lucas Defusco, 21, of Haverhill is expected to be arraigned in Haverhill District Court later today on a murder charge.

Derric Gaines, 25, also of Haverhill was found on the sidewalk on High Street, near the intersection of Albion Street, about 8:30 pm last night suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at Lawrence General Hospital.
