Essex DA identifies Methuen shooting victim

A 28-year-old Lawrence man was shot and killed across the street from the Sahara Club in Methuen early today.

David Rivera, of 246 Farnham St., Lawrence, was killed just before 1 a.m. today, Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said.

Methuen police received phone calls about shots being heard at the nightclub on 34 Bates St. at 1:10 a.m. When police arrived, a man was down on the ground across Greendale Street from the club. He was transported to Lawrence General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been made and police are still investigating and questioning witnesses. State police are also helping in the investigation.

Bates Street is off East Street (Route 110) west of Interstate 495.

Blodgett urged anyone with information about the shooting to call Methuen police at 978-983-8676.
