Third man arrested in fatal shootings held without bail

HAVERHILL - The third man arrested in last week's fatal shootings on River Street has been held without bail.

Jones Rogers, 25, of 4 Prospect St., was ordered held at his arraignment this morning in Haverhill District Court.

State and local police arrested Rogers at his home last night, after reports from witnesses that he was involved in the shootings the night of July 23 at 629 River St. He faces a variety of charges, including murder.

Police said Rogers and two other men apparently conducted a home invasion at the apartment because they believed illegal drugs and a large amount of money were kept there. Killed in the invasion were Billy Melchionda, 19, who lived in the apartment, and Anddy Guzman, 20 of Lawrence. Police said Guzman was among the invaders and was killed by a stray bullet.

A complete report will appear in Thursday's Eagle-Tribune.
