Off-duty Salem officer charged with DWI

SALEM, N.H. — An off-duty police lieutenant was charged with driving while intoxicated yesterday afternoon following a single-vehicle accident on Millville Street.

Lt. Kristin Fili, 44, is a 14-year veteran of the department.

She was found sitting on the back stairs at 190 Millville St. just before 1:30 p.m. yesterday when police responded to a reported single-vehicle accident with airbag deployment, according to Lt. Robert Morin Jr.

Fili was not on duty at the time of the incident, according to Morin. Responding officers observed signs of impairment, he said.

Fili, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to Lawrence General Hospital for treatment.

Salem police went to the hospital and served Fili with a summons to appear in court Sept. 17 to be arraigned on a DWI charge.

She is on paid administrative leave.

Fili is subject to "continued criminal and internal investigations," Morin said.
