Sandown teen hurt in crash dies from injuries

A Sandown teenager has died from injuries he suffered in an accident Saturday morning on Route 111 in Hampstead.

David Augusta III, 17, succumbed to his injuries, according to a spokesman at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Augusta was a senior at Timberlane Regional High School and the son of Lawrence police Officer David Augusta Jr.

“He is a nice boy,” Timberlane principal Don Woodworth said earlier.

Woodworth said earlier this week the Augusta family had been in touch with the school and asked that David be kept in their prayers.

He had been in critical condition since the accident, that occurred at 6:13 a.m. at the intersection of Route 111 and Hazel Drive.

He was flown from the scene by medical helicopter.

Police said a witness reported the teenager's Jeep Cherokee crossed the center line before colliding with a Chrylser minivan, driven by Susan LeBlanc, 41, of Plaistow.

LeBlanc, too, was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she recently was listed in serious condition.

Her husband, John, 41, and their sons, Evan, 8, and Ryan, 5, were treated for minor injuries.

Police said they do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
