MANCHESTER, N.H. — A Salem, N.H., man faces a felony DWI charge after an early-morning crash today on Interstate 93.
Gregory Dawson, 26, was drunk at the wheel, N.H. State Police claim, when he hit another car on I-93 just past 2 a.m. today, injuring the passenger and the driver of the other vehicle.
Troopers Mark Dore and Andrew Monaco were passed by Dawson's vehicle near the intersection of I-93 and I-293 at 2:06 a.m., police said.
The troopers were trying to catch up with the speeding vehicle when the driver lost control and swerved into the right-hand southbound lane of I-93 near mile marker 17.6.
Dawson's vehicle and the other vehicle collided, and the passenger in the vehicle Dawson struck was ejected, police said. That individual was taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester, as were the other driver and Dawson.
The troopers and a Good Samaritan administered first aid at the scene until Manchester fire and rescue personnel arrived.
The N.H. State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit handled the accident scene.
Speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors, police said.
Dawson is charged with felony DWI.
The investigation continues. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Trooper Bryan Plamondon at (603) 223-4381 or email Bryan.Plamondon@dos.nh.gov.
