Police shoot, kill man with machete at Salisbury Beach

SALISBURY BEACH — Police officers from Salisbury and all surrounding communities are on the scene of a reported stabbing and shooting incident at Salisbury Beach.

According to police, Chief Thomas Fowler, Sgt. Robert Roy, and Officer Michael Alder were called to the scene of an incident at 150 Cable Ave., where a man had tried to attack two others with a machete. Arriving at the scene, the officers were approached by the man, carrying the machete.

When officers ordered him to stop and put down his weapon, he came at them and was shot and killed by police. During the incident, the police SUV was involved in a collision with a vehicle containing the suspect.

All three officers turned in their weapons, and Fowler and Alder were taken to Anna Jaques for evaluation, which is standard operating procedures in such cases.

Cable Avenue runs south from the center of Salisbury Beach, parallel to Railroad Avenue, where the police station is located. No. 150 is at the Salisbury Beach Reservation end of Cable Avenue.
