Salem Depot closed to traffic

SALEM, N.H. — A week after a water line break snarled the Depot, it has happened again.

Police report a "significant" water line break this morning has tied traffic up again near the intersection of Routes 28 and 97 (Main Street).

The Department of Public Works is on the scene.

Police are urging people to avoid the area. Lengthy delays are expected in and around the area.

The entire intersection has been shut down and no traffic will be allowed through, Lt. Joel Dolan said.

Here are the detours: Route 28 north will be directed to Main Street eastbound; Route 28 south will be directed to Main Street westbound; Main Street east will be detoured at Granite Avenue with a hard closure at Millville Street; Main Street westbound will be detoured at Pleasant Street.

"Early indications show this is a more serious break than the one that occurred in the intersection last week," Dolan said. "There is no estimated time when the intersection will be opened for vehicular traffic."
