One hospitalized in I-495 crash

495 north bound backed up

METHUEN — One person was hospitalized in a crash on Interstate 495 north bound just south of Route 213 late this morning, Massachusetts State Police said.

That person, who has not yet been identified, was taken to Lawrence General Hospital to await a MedFlight helicopter to Boston, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

At the scene, a single silver or gray car had come to rest facing south against a hill in the median. Police cruisers and fire engines blocked off the two left lanes, and State Police said traffic on Interstate 495 north was backed up to Andover.

Drivers trying to get to Route 213 or into Haverhill should seek a different route.

No more information was available from police, and none of the four people involved was identified.
