Police search for masked man with knife who robbed Haverhill bank

HAVERHILL — Police are searching the Monument Square for a man they said used a knife to rob Sovereign Bank this afternoon.

Police said a man wearing a black hoodie and a black ski mask entered the bank at 340 Main St. just before 3 p.m., and, while brandishing a knife, demanded cash from a teller.

Police said the man fled the bank on foot with an undetermined amount of money. Police said they searched the area after being notified of the robbery, but were unable to find the man.

As of 4 p.m., police were still on the scene and, with help from state police, are continuing the search. The bank is north of downtown and at the edge of Monument Square.

The Eagle-Tribune has asked police to release the bank security video or a still photo of the man so the public can help identify him.
