UPDATE: Boy struck by car, seriously injured in Methuen

METHUEN - A 13-year-old Methuen boy skateboarding on Lawrence Street was struck by a car tonight and seriously injured, police say.

The boy was taken taken by helicopter to a Boston hospital with what police Lt. Jim Jajuga described as "serious" injuries.

Jajuga said the accident happened in front of 91 Lawrence St. about 8:30 p.m. He said the boy was struck by a Volvo sedan. He said the accident is still under investigation.

A police reconstruction team is on scene investigating the accident. The road is currently shut down.
