Lowell man killed this afternoon in Lawrence

LAWRENCE — A 27-year-old Lowell man died today after he was shot multiple times on Union Street.

Police recovered a gun next to the man after he was gunned down near 115 Union St. at 12:40 p.m., Police Chief John Romero said.

It appears the man was shot after "an altercation in the area with several other males,” Romero said.

Dozens of onlookers crowded the area after the shooting and as police investigated.

Lawrence police and state troopers assigned to District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett’s office are investigating the homicide.

The victim’s name is being withheld by police until his relatives are located and notified.
