Early-morning fire destroys Windham home

WINDHAM — A fire at 2:16 this morning at 2 Meetinghouse Road destroyed a two-and-a-half-story home, according to fire Chief Thomas McPherson Jr.

All occupants got out of the house safely.

The fire was heavy at the rear of a first-floor family room when firefighters arrived, McPherson said. The fire extended to a second-floor bedroom area.

The first floor received heavy fire damage. The rest of the home was heavily damaged by heat and water.

A firefighter suffered heat-related injuries and was treated at the scene. Another firefighter slipped on the ice, but didn't require treatment, McPherson said.

The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the family. The Salvation Army provided firefighter support.

Firefighters from Londonderry, Salem, Hudson and Derry assisted at the scene.

Pelham and Hampstead provided station coverage.

The fire is being investigated by the Windham Fire Department.
