Sex assault suspect held on $100K bail

DERRY — An Allenstown man, appearing in 10th Circuit Court this morning, denied he tried to sexually assault a Pelham woman earlier this week.

"These are all false statements or allegations," Walter Collier, 34, told Judge John Coughlin.

Coughlin set bail at $100,000 cash on two felony charges of kidnapping and attempted aggravated felonious sexual assault, as well as a misdemeanor offense of simple assault.

Pelham police said a 38-year-old woman reported she went on a date with Collier on Monday. When they returned to her home, she told police, Collier tried to assault her, but she fended him off.

The woman told police he identified himself as "Walter" and that he lived in Allenstown.

Pelham police contacted Allenstown police, providing a description of the man.

Allenstown police identified the man as Collier and he was arrested.

Pelham Master Patrolman Dennis Mannion requested the $100,000 bail, telling the judge Collier had served time in state prison for felonious sexual assault and criminal restraint.

"We feel he is a flight risk and danger to society," Mannion said.

Collier denied he is a flight risk.

"I'm not going to risk losing my kids or my business," Collier told the judge.

A probable cause hearing will be held later in 10th Circuit Court in Salem.
