Jury finds Plaistow man guilty of stealing from club

BRENTWOOD — A jury has just found former Plaistow Fish and Game treasurer Alan Colby guilty on six theft charges.

Colby's trial started yesterday. The jury returned with a verdict less than two hours after being given the case.

Colby was arrested in April 2012 on charges he embezzled more than $100,000 from the club. He had been free on cash bail since his arrest.

Colby was charged with stealing money from the club's bingo, liquor and general accounts between July 21, 2008, and July 9, 2010.

He apparently simply electronically transferred funds from the club's accounts into that of his construction company, Senter Brothers Inc.

Treasurer of the club since 2008, Colby resigned in 2010 after other members realized money was missing.

Described as popular by other club members, Colby denied any wrongdoing when contacted by a reporter last spring.

He faces seven and half to 15 years in state prison on each charge.
