Football coach Rafferty reinstated at North Andover High

Multiple sources speaking on the condition of anonymity have said John Rafferty has been reinstated as head football coach for North Andover High School.

Rafferty, who headed the North Andover High football program for a dozen years, was told Jan.25 by Principal Carla Scuzzarella and athletics director Jon Longley he was not being rehired as coach.

The news was greeted by a firestorm of protest that culminated in more than 200 parents as well as current and former NAHS football players attending Monday night's School Committee meeting.

At least 20 people spoke passionately in favor of keeping Rafferty on the job.

Asked if Rafferty got his job back, Superintendent Kevin Hutchinson said he could not "comment on rumors" but urged The Eagle-Tribune to show up at Scuzzarella's office at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
