Enthusiasts host El Camino swap meet

El Camino owners and admirers will gather Saturday, April 6, for breakfast and an informal get-together, with a vehicle display and an opportunity to swap spare parts for the classic cars. The event, called the El Camino Spring Dust-Off, celebrates the coming of the warm-weather cruising season. It is sponsored by the New England chapter of the National El Camino Owners Association.

The event takes place at Lawrence Municipal Airport, North Andover. Breakfast starts at 10 a.m. at Joe’s Landing Cafe, at the airport. Activities wrap up at 2 p.m.

Participants will tour some airport facilities, and also discuss plans for the upcoming Fifth Annual El Camino Night at Lee USA Speedway, schedule for Friday, June 14.

“I can’t wait to get my El Camino out of winter storage, especially after the latest and greatest storm” last week, noted North Andover resident John Harris, an organizer of the event and past national director of the association. He encouraged El Camino owners to bring their vehicles no matter what shape they’re in.

“No cleaning or polishing required,” Harris posted on the group’s website. “Just come as you are, right out of winter storage. Bring your El Camino whatever its condition, beater, daily driver or fully restored.”

Information is available on the group’s web site, at www.elcaminocentral.com.

Gas prices drop again

Regional and national pump prices edged lower last week for the second consecutive week, according to fuel-price tracking by the auto club AAA. After the decrease, average prices in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and for the U.S. at large stood slightly lower than the levels attained at this time last year.

In Massachusetts, the average price for self-service regular gas fell 2.4 cents over a seven day span, reaching $3.719 on Wednesday compared to $3.743 the prior week, AAA reported. On the same day of 2012, the Bay State average of $3.744 was 2.5 cents higher than Wednesday’s level.
