---- — Local and national gasoline prices rose last week for the fifth consecutive week. Service-station tracking by the auto club AAA showed that the average price for self-service regular gas reached $3.80 per gallon in Massachusetts by mid week. The New Hampshire state-wide average nosed above $3.75 per gallon, AAA reported.
On Wednesday, AAA reported a Massachusetts average of $3.800 for self-service regular gas. That was up 1.6 cents from the prior Wednesday's average of $3.784,. On the same day of 2011, the Bay State average of $3.684 was 11.6 cents lower than Wednesday's level.
In New Hampshire, a 1.6-cent increase put the state-wide average at $3.752 on Wednesday, from $3.736 one week earlier, according to AAA. Wednesday's level was 11.0 cents higher than the $3.642 recorded on the same day last year.
The U.S. coast-to-coast average bumped upward by 2.0 pennies last week, reaching $3.824 on Wednesday, from $3.804 the prior week, AAA announced. Wednesday's national average was 16.2 cents higher than the $3.662 recorded on the same day last year.
