---- — LAWRENCE — Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union announces the promotion of Digna Jhonson. She has accepted the Riverwalk Branch Manager position in Lawrence.

Jhonson has been with the Credit Union for the past five years, working in the back office Loan Servicing department. Prior to joining Merrimack Valley, Jhonson worked as a building manager for a local nonprofit organization. She has two children, Joshua and Leslie.

HAVERHILL — The George C. Wadleigh Foundation, Inc., continues its program of grants to local charitable organizations. President of the Wadleigh Foundation, Edmund J. Cote Jr., reports that in December 2012, more than $577,000 was distributed to 17 Greater Haverhill organizations involved in the care and housing of the aged indigent, indigent and homeless.

NORTH ANDOVER — Cowan Bolduc Doherty LLC announces the promotion of Joshua Pfeil, CPA, to the position of principal as of Jan. 1. Pfeil has been an essential member of the CBD team for over 14 years. HAVERHILL — The Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce Membership Services Committee, in partnership with Haverhill Bank, will host former captain of the Boston Bruins and recent inductee into the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame Rick Middleton as the featured keynote speaker at the 23rd annual Business Awards Breakfast on Feb. 8, at the Renaissance Golf Club, 377 Kenoza St., in Haverhill. The event will run from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.

The Membership Services Committee holds this event to recognize member businesses that have been active in the Chamber and the community throughout the year. The breakfast will honor the 11 businesses that received the “Business of the Month” awards for 2012. They are: Lowell Five Cent Savings Bank (January), Pentucket Medical Associates (February), Gold Leaf Fine Jewelry (March), Law Office of Attorney Thomas J. Sullivan (April), The Landmark Building (May), Baystate Financial Services LLC (June), Best Western Merrimack Valley (July/August), Spectrum Marketing Inc. (September), Holland’s Flowers of Bradford (October), Pentucket Bank (November), and Ashley’s Hallmark Shop (December).

In addition to these businesses the Chamber will also recognize annual award recipients who have supported the Chamber and their community in 2012, in addition to acting as leaders in their respectful categories. HAVERHILL — The Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce, partnered with the Greater Haverhill Chamber Commerce, and hosted a “Speed Networking” event at the Haverhill Golf & Country Club on Jan. 24. The format for the evening was based on the popular “Speed Dating” phenomenon, with a business twist. Twenty-six local businesses, from both the Salem Chamber and the Haverhill Chamber, engaged in structured, one-on-one networking, that occurred in five minute timed intervals. The event allowed for participants to learn about many other businesses, exchange information about their own business, and gain new business leads, in a short time. SALEM, N.H. — Quality Response Systems, LLC, a Salem-based company that specializes in the distribution of Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs), recently donated an AED to the Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) can strike at any time. Studies have shown that the likelihood of survival increases if the victims receive Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or use an AED within five minutes of collapse. LAWRENCE — The Walmart Foundation has awarded a $25,000 grant to the Merrimack Valley Workforce Investment Board (MVWIB) for “Close the Gap” Veterans Services. Walmart funding will be used to support occupational skills training for veterans who are not eligible for any other veteran-targeted federal or state job training. The ValleyWorks Career Center (VWCC) in Lawrence will operate the program through their local veterans employment representatives. Services will take place over the next nine months. The MVWIB/VWCC served nearly 1,000 veterans in 2012, and is on course to surpass this number in 2013.

The MVWIB oversees the VWCC with branches in Lawrence and Haverhill. The VWCC offers resources for business and job seekers under one roof. For more information, visit mvwib.org.
