Local auto dealer Brian Kelly was selected among members of the Massachusetts State Automobile Dealers Association as the Time 2014 Dealer of the Year finalist for Massachusetts. Kelly now represents the state in the competition to become Time’s national dealer of the year.
The selection makes him one of 57 nominees from across America who will be honored at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention in New Orleans in January. At that time, the national Time Dealer of the Year will be announced.
Now in its 45th year, the Time Dealer of the Year award is one of the car industry’s top honors. This year Kelly and other nominees were selected from among 17,000 dealers from across the United States. The award is sponsored by Time in cooperation with Ally Financial, with support from the National Automobile Dealers Association.
“It’s an honor just to be nominated,” said Brian Heney, director of operations for the Kelly Automotive Group.
Brian Kelly is president and founder of the group. He started the business when he purchased a Nissan dealership from his father in 1980. He rapidly expanded the business to become one of the highest selling car stores in the region. In 1989, Kelly opened the first Infiniti dealership in the world. Today, his North Shore and Merrimack Valley group includes Kelly Fiat of Peabody, Kelly Infiniti of Danvers, Kelly Jeep Chrysler of Lynnfield, Kelly Honda of Lynn, Kelly Maserati of Danvers, Kelly Volkswagen of Danvers, and Kelly Nissan dealers in Beverly, Lynnfield and Woburn.
Time’s Dealer of the Year award recognizes car dealers for both successful business practices and noteworthy commitment to community service.
Kelly’s selection “is a reflection of what’s been going on since 1980,” said Heney. “It shows that Brian is not only a very good businessman who has sound business practices, but he also takes care of his local communities – both the people who work for him and the people who come here for business. It’s a reflection of his willingness to give back to his community”
