NORTH ANDOVER — North Andover businesses have a new tool to improve their bottom line as well as the community: Each other. With its "Stay Local. Shop Locally" theme, the North Andover Merchants Association has formed with the mission to promote local businesses as well as improvements throughout North Andover. Already 62 businesses have joined as founding members and organizers expect to attract 100 by year's end. John McElhiney, the owner of J & T Auto Service on Main Street, and Heather Norwood, the owner of Top Notch Cuts on Water Street, are co-presidents. ANDOVER — Dr. Anthony E. Turiano is the new medical director of Academy Manor, a 174-bed Genesis HealthCare skilled nursing facility. Turiano received his Doctor of Medicine from State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. Currently he is a staff physician at both the New England Medical Group and the Isham Infirmary at Phillips Academy. He is also the medical director at both Beacon Hospice at Holy Family Hospital and Hammel Infirmary at Merrimack College. He is affiliated with Lawrence General Hospital and Merrimack Valley Independent Physician Association.



NORTH ANDOVER — Dr. Vito Iacoviello has been named chairman of the Department of Infectious Diseases at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, effective Sept. 28. He will also serve as vice president for Clinical Epidemiology and Clinical Pharmacy Services at Caritas Christi Health Care, splitting his time between his hospital and system roles. Dr. Iacoviello is a North Andover resident.



SALEM, N.H. — Act One Salon was recognized in a contest sponsored by Aguage Hair Care products and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Act One represented Salem, N.H., and won first place. Sheila Simone, owner of Act One Salon, received a certificate of excellence for demonstrating an outstanding commitment to making a difference in the fight against breast cancer. Act One's prize was an all expense trip to Chicago to the Aguage Master Academy of Hair Designs. Simone and her co-worker Donna Ferreira took a four-day intense haircutting and styling course and participated in a live photo shoot for Salon Magazine.



METHUEN — The staff of the Nevins Alzheimer's Family Care Center, a dementia specific adult day health program in Methuen, walked in the Alzheimer's Association Northeastern Massachusetts Memory Walk on Oct. 4, at the Brickstone Square in Andover.



HAMPSTEAD, N.H. — Brandon Robertson has joined the staff at Dube Plus Construction, a general contractor located in Hampstead, N.H. Robertson, a resident of Sandown, N.H., attended Plymouth State University, where he received his bachelor's degree in marketing with a minor in communication.
