Woman shoots would-be burglar with pellet gun

SUNBURY, Pa. — A would-be burglar in Pennsylvania received more than he bargained for when he tried to steal a flat screen television from a home he had broken into Sunday night.

The homeowner, Sandra Norris, shot him in the leg with a .22-caliber pellet air soft gun as he fled out the back door of her Sunbury residence.

“I walked in and saw him holding my 50-inch flat screen TV and I told him he was going to have one chance to get out and I fired a warning shot,” she told the Sunbury Daily Item on Monday. “He didn’t listen so I shot him in the leg.”

Norris said she arrived home to drop off some belongings and discovered the man, who was wearing a black hoodie, jeans and tan boots.

“I opened the door and saw him holding the TV,” she said. “I had my gun around the corner and I grabbed it and started yelling. He looked at me and he didn’t drop the television so I fired off a round and then I shot him in the leg. I’m a good shot.”

Norris then called 911, and Sunbury police responded to the home, located in the Hill Section of Sunbury. Acting Police Chief Brad Hare said hospitals were alerted to be on the lookout for the suspect, who in addition to his clothing was described as a tall, thin black male. He said police believe the incident was a random act, but cautioned nearby residents to leave their lights on and to lock their doors.

“When they catch him, and I know they will, I will be able to pick him out of a lineup easily,” Norris said, showing the escape route the suspect used. “When he was screaming, he ran through the kitchen and out the back door to the alley," she said. “He left a trail of blood behind.”
