The Rotary Club of Greater Salem, is soliciting applicants for its Community Service Scholarships from this year's graduating high school seniors. The club will award two $1,000 scholarships to eligible high school graduates who reside in Atkinson, Hampstead, Windham, Pelham and Salem. The awards are given to students who have been involved in community service while in high school. Application deadline is May 20. The Andover Tennis Club, offers outdoor recreational tennis at Phillips Academy to its members during the summer months. No courts fees during the summer. The Andover Dollars for Scholars program, has applications for the 2009 Norah McCarthy Scholarship in the guidance departments of Andover High School, The Greater Lawrence Technical School, Memorial Hall Library, Andover Town Offices on Bartlet Street, the main office at Wood Hill Middle School, and online at www.aps1.net. Any Andover resident graduating from high school who attended Wood Hill Middle School during the period of 2001 until 2005, when Mrs. McCarthy served as principal, is eligible to apply. The North Andover Garden Club, is seeking new members. The club meets each month from September through June on the first Tuesday of the month. Some events are held in the morning and some in the evening at members' homes, at local businesses or town buildings. Monthly activities include workshops such as garden design, container gardening, floral arranging, to cooking and making fruit liqueurs. The club makes greenery for town buildings in December, and has its annual plant sale in May to help support ongoing beautification projects around North Andover. Sandown Lions Club Begins Loaning Hooked on Phonics Learn-to-Read Program, The Sandown Lions Club, N.H., has purchased a Hooked-on-Phonics Classic learn-to-read program. This simple but highly effective program will be loaned to any Sandown resident with a child under 15 years old. The loan period is for three months. Haverhill Trails Committee, welcomes volunteers. Since 1993, the all volunteer organization has helped maintain Haverhill's network of trails and conservation areas. Most trail maintenance is done in the spring and fall, last for a few hours and usually does not require any heavy lifting. Tools are provided. The Boys and Girls Car Campaign, will accept most any car with no restrictions now that the price of scrap metal has risen. Cars will be picked up anywhere in Massachusetts, usually within a week, and are sold at auction. To donate, call 1-800-246-0493. The Merrimack Valley Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, numbers 43 women from 27 communities in Greater Boston and Southern New Hampshire who share a love of music and singing a cappella four-part harmony. Women 14 and older who love to sing are invited to attend open rehearsals on Thursdays at the Wilmington Arts Council Building, 219 Middlesex Ave., (Route 62), Wilmington. My Brother's Keeper Quilt Group, meets at the Kingston First Congregational Church in Kingston on the first and third Wednesday of the month. The Mom's Club, is starting a new chapter in Windham. The Mom's Club is an international support group for mothers who stay at home with their children, including those who have home-based businesses, as well as part-time workers that are at home with their children during the day. The new Windham chapter will have monthly meetings, playgroup networks for babies and preschool children, interesting speakers and discussions, a baby-sitting co-op, as well as local community projects and fundraising/charity work. The new chapter will meet during the day allowing moms to bring their children to all activities. New members are always welcome. The Granite State African Violet Society, meets on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. (except January and July) at the Marion Gerrish Community Center in Derry.
