Writers’ Group, 7 p.m. at Memorial Hall Library, 2 North Main St., Andover. The monthly writers’ group is open to writers of adult fiction, nonfiction, and memoirs. Open House, 2 to 4 p.m. at the Marion Gerrish Community Center, 39 West Broadway, Derry. In celebration of the center’s 40 years of service. Includes tours of the building, cake, water and a $50 dining gift certificate raffle. The Thrift Shop will offer 40 percent off any one item, per person, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 603-434-8866.

Annual Glow Ball Golf tournament, dusk at Murphy’s Garrison Par 3 Golf Center, Hilldale Avenue, Haverhill. Check in is at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $50 per golfer. Includes nine holes of golf, barbecue, prizes, raffles, auction and more. Glow Balls will be provided. Tee and green sponsorships available for $50. Hosted by Rebuilding Together Greater Haverhill Inc. All proceeds will assist eligible homeowners in making repairs and modifications. Participating homeowners who receive these program services are low-income elderly, handicapped, veterans, and families with young children. Saturday, Sept. 15

Third annual Oktoberfest Celebration, noon to 9 p.m. in Rockingham Park’s Sports Room, Salem, N.H. Hosted by the Greater Salem Rotary Club. Features authentic German food and beverages, the Oberlaender Hofbrau Band, and the Exile Motorsports Car Show. Also includes a family-friendly “Kids’ Zone” with face painting, balloons, games and prizes. $5 for adults, free for children 12 and under. Sponsors welcome. 603-894-6386.
