Friends of the Nevins Memorial Library Annual Book Sale, at the library, 305 Broadway, Methuen. Donate used books to help stock the sale. Books in good condition (no musty or moldy volumes) will be accepted up until the evening of Sept. 26. DVDs, CDs, videos, puzzles and gently used, clean Halloween costumes for all ages will also be accepted. Keith Lockhart & Friends, 7:30 p.m. at the Collins Center for the Performing Arts at Andover High School. This event is presented by the Northern Essex Community College Foundation, Inc., the Women of NECC, and the NECC Alumni Association. Proceeds will benefit NECC’s Endowment Fund. Lockhart will present a talk on composer Igor Stravinsky’s “The Soldier’s Tale,” illustrated by periodic interludes of music performed by a group of seven musicians. Tickets are $35. Essex Heritage Trails & Sails events, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Methuen Rail Trail. All events will start at the depot parking area. Includes a free trail race (2 1/2 miles) through the scenic bird sanctuary, past the Nevins Farm and the heron rookery to the state line and back. Flat and fast course. Water and snacks will be provided at the end of the race. The race will start at 8:30 a.m. There will also be a scavenger hunt for ages 5-13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Complete the hunt and return to the Depot for a prize. There will also be guided tours of the rail trail from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Self guided tours can be taken as well. Methuen Rail Trail items, such as T-shirts and patches, will be available for sale.
