Attention home schoolers: VFW Post 1617 and Ladies’ Auxiliary, is offering a scholarship. Students must be in grades 9-12 to enter the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Awards. Applications must be received at the VFW Post by March 31, 2013. The VFW Post is located at 18 Railroad Ave., Derry. The Plaistow Lions Club, meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of the month, September through June. The meeting on the second Thursday is held at the Atkinson Country Club, 85 Country Club Drive. The meeting on the fourth Thursday is held at the Vic Geary Center, 18 Greenough Road, Plaistow. Haverhill YMCA Youth Basketball League, with divisions for grades 1-8. Divisions will include two age groups: first-sixth grade divisions will play on Saturdays and the seventh-eighth grade division will play on Thursday evenings or Saturday afternoons. Haverhill YMCA Pee Wee Basketball League, for ages 3 to kindergarten. All Pee Wee teams will meet on Saturday mornings within the 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. time frame for one hour. The Lawrence Cultural Council, is looking for volunteers. Must be a Lawrence resident and be available for about three to four meetings per year. To apply or for more information, call 978-620-2950.

The Breakfast Exchange Club of Greater Haverhill, part of the National Exchange Clubs, meets at 8 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at Haverhill Crossings. The club focuses its community service efforts on seniors with service programs that include a Caregiver’s Boot Camp, taxi and fuel vouchers for seniors, the Don Nolet Memorial Scholarship at Northern Essex Community College, food baskets for seniors as care givers, and more.
