Region in a Minute: Church social in memory of cancer victim

HAVERHILL — A family ice-cream social is July 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Church, 278 Groveland St., in the second-floor function hall.

Visitors are asked to use the side entrance. This event is being held in memory of Karen Quadros of Haverhill and will feature raffles for gift baskets as well as for one pair of Red Sox tickets, children's games and prizes, music, baked goods, beverages and ice-cream sundaes provided by Friendly's restaurant in Haverhill. Admission is free. Donations are appreciated.

Team Karen's Krew will donate all proceeds to the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, to be held Oct. 14 in Boston.

Local woman joins YMCA board

HAVERHILL — The YMCA of the North Shore announced that Mary O'Neil has joined the Y Association Board.

She will be among 35 Y volunteers who lead the nonprofit organization in strengthening its 25 North Shore communities in youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA of the North Shore, with more than 43,000 members, nurtures the potential of youth, improves the health and well-being of our communities and supports our neighbors in need.

O'Neil, president of the Haverhill YMCA Board, is a Haverhill resident with strong ties to her community. She has a long career with local hospital affiliations and is the newly appointed regional marking director at Steward Healthcare. She is also involved in many local nonprofit organizations that strengthen Greater Haverhill.

Cedardale swim and tennis club reunion planned on Aug. 12

GROVELAND — The Cedardale of Groveland swim and tennis club will hold a reunion Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine.

Summer music series features bluegrass concert

HAMPSTEAD — The Meetinghouse Park Summer Music Series in Hampstead continues on July 10 at 6 p.m. with a concert by the Vermont-based bluegrass group, Banjo Dan and the Mid-nite Plowboys.

This event is free and will be held rain or shine. The band is celebrating 35 years playing original acoustic music to audiences throughout the Northeast and promises an evening of true bluegrass — dynamic and exciting delivered with drive and passion and including spontaneous humor. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnic baskets.
