Keith Lockhart & Friends, 7:30 p.m. at the Collins Center for the Performing Arts at Andover High School. This event is presented by the Northern Essex Community College Foundation, Inc., the Women of NECC, and the NECC Alumni Association. Proceeds will benefit NECC’s Endowment Fund. Lockhart will present a talk on composer Igor Stravinsky’s “The Soldier’s Tale,” illustrated by periodic interludes of music performed by a group of seven musicians. Essex Heritage Trails & Sails events, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Methuen Rail Trail. All events will start at the depot parking area. Includes a free trail race (2 1/2 miles) through the scenic bird sanctuary, past the Nevins Farm and the heron rookery to the state line and back. Flat and fast course. Water and snacks will be provided at the end of the race. The race will start at 8:30 a.m. There will also be a scavenger hunt for ages 5-13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Complete the hunt and return to the Depot for a prize. There will also be guided tours of the rail trail from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Self guided tours can be taken as well. Methuen Rail Trail items, such as T-shirts and patches, will be available for sale. 2013 ConvenientMD 10K, 8:30 a.m. beginning at the Windham Depot, 6 Depot Road. Food and refreshments will be served after the race. Includes a $100 cash prize to the top male and female, as well as age group awards. The race will start and finish at the Windham Depot. This is a paved rail trail that is generally shaded and passes along wetlands, through ledges and has no road crossings. Registration required. roadracerunner.com.
